Pea-like flowers are followed by long, green seed pods which turn black and are present from fall to winter. Native to the Eastern United States these plants can be found in open fields or in large wooded areas and were found to be a useful plant to the Native Americans who resided here years ago

Care: Like average to rich soil with good drainage. Slow to get started but form a very long lasting clump. Does not like to be disturbed. Emerges late in the spring.
