Carex nigra 'Variegata'
Height Light
Under 12 in. Partial Sun Late Summer 5 - 9

Easily grown in wet soils in part shade to full shade. Will grow in shallow water (e.g., 3-4" deep). Tolerates full sun as long as soils are wet, but best in part shade. Although evergreen in warm winter climates, minimal persistence of foliage color occurs in other areas unless winter is unusually mild. May be grown in medium moisture soils, but is less vigorous.

Care: A semi-evergreen that performs best in moist, rich, acidic soil with a half day of sun. This variety does not do well in full shade. It can be grown in shallow water 2-3 in. deep. In northern climates, it should be sited out of the way of winter winds and provided with some protection such as snow or straw. If plants look tattered in early spring, cut them back to the ground. The new foliage will quickly fill back in.
